A Note About Casting
Several of the servants have gender-neutral roles: Stephanie/Stephan, Octavia/Octavian, and Piper. In order to meet the demands of the production, minor roles may be added, subtracted, combined, renamed, etc. Of the seven swans, eight maids, and nine dames, one can be Maria. Additionally, Sygnette may have a doll who dresses like her and contributes to the size of the chorus. Even Sir Toby and Sir Andrew are fair game. Thereafter, males and females alike may provide the needed numbers.
